Festivals, Fairs, and Celebrations are a way of life in Appalachia, especially in Southwest Virginia. From Spring to the Fall, you'll find a festivity every weekend that features he unique culture, food, music and local arts and crafts of our region. Here in Russell County we have several annual events that we know you'll love!

Annual Events

April | Honaker Redbud Festival

In early Spring, the small town of Honaker erupts in a brilliant display of pink as thousands of Redbud trees awaken from their winter hibernation. This annual event held the third weekend in April celebrates the return of spring.

June | Clinch River Days

Every year on the weekend after Memorial Day, the Town of St. Paul comes alive with the many flavors of the region. This festival includes live music, food, local craft beer and wine tastings, caving excursions, bus tours, art and photography, fishing, hiking, and more. It is a weekend o fun in the mountains.

June - August | Town of Lebanon

There are hundreds of stops to make as Main Street is filled with vendors for the Town-Wide Yard sale on the first Saturday in June.
Cedar Fest music festival is held the second weekend in June and comprises everything from bluegrass to gospel and food trucks.
July 4 is an all-day celebration with a parade, food, vendors, live music and fireworks.
The beach comes to Lebanon in August each year with sand, pools, food, and fun.

September | Russell County Fair and Horse Show

The Russell Co. Fair held in Castlewood has been voted the "Best in Class" for numerous years by the Virginia Association of Fairs, and the Horse Show has ranked as one of the best in the Commonwealth by Virginia Living Magazine. From local vendors to the midway carnival and the live entertainment to the agricultural exhibits, this event begins Labor Day and has everything you would want and more in a down-home county fair.

Independence Day Celebration

A big slice of our Independence Day Celebration is live music, and we're kicking up our star spangled heels with the 29th Division Army National Guard Military Rock Band; not only are they accomplished musicians, but also trained soldiers that have served our country. We'll be punctuating the evening with local favorite Coal Creek and their long playlist of cover songs ranging from Johnny Cash and Tom Petty.
